After being in sports betting for about 23 years you have come to see many things such as a hairy chimpanzee putting down the winner for a horse race 10 times in a row, leaving me with a severe insomnia problem. I have also experienced the amazing growth of the internet and especially seen the difference it made to the sports betting community.

When I started out on my sports betting journey in the beginning of the 80’s my father took me to the local bookmaker/pub “The Winning Post”. This became the centre of my life for a year or so until I by accident saw that the odds for some races and games were very much different at a different bookmaker in the neighbouring town. I saw that I could make up to 30-40% more on my winnings on some games, so I started to compare. (more…)

Q1: When you consider that the foreign exchange market has become the world’s largest financial market, with over $1.5 trillion USD traded daily, where does it go from here?

A1:The FX market is unique, in the UK there is no central exchange, we trade via the inter bank market. With more and more private individuals taking up margin trading and new forex brokers setting up, I can only see the market grow in the near future. (more…)

Sports Arbitrage: Is It Really “Risk-Free”?

Posted under Sports by admin on October 4, 2008 1:56 pm ||

In the financial world, an arbitrage represents the purchase of securities on one market for immediate resale on another market in order to profit from a price discrepancy. This results in immediate risk-free profit. In the currency market, for example: if $1.00 in U.S. currency buys 0.7 British pounds currency, £1 in British currency buys 9.5 French francs, and 1 French franc buys 0.16 in U.S. dollars, then an arbitrage trader can start with $1.00 and earn $1.064 thus earning a profit of 6.4 percent. It seems pretty simple and easy, but it is actually fairly complicated and rare. (more…)

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Playing Online Poker Vs. Playing At A Poker Table

The differences between online poker and more traditional poker table games are sometimes not as obvious as they may seem.

Unlike sitting down at a poker table with friends, online poker has an added dimension these days. There is a lot of pressure from many quarters to make online poker illegal, particularly in the United States. You will almost always know if the table game you are playing is in an area where poker is legal, but it is getting harder to know if this is true about poker played online.

Day Trading Checklist

Posted under Financial by admin on October 2, 2008 1:47 am ||

Here’s a bunch of important things you should know about day trading before you start. First off, can you daytrade if you don’t have the requisite $25,000 plus? Yes. You can start Day Trading with as little as $750 if you decide to trade using a spreadbetting account rather than a standard broker, allowing you to ignore most day trading regulations about trading frequency. To day trade stocks using a standard brokerage account (8 round trips or more per week) you will typically need more than $25,000 in your account as per Uncle Sam’s regulations designed to stop newbies blowing up. You don’t necessarily need a ‘mega PC’ and a direct access account either. The average spread betting firm will give you access to a day trading system that runs happily in the browser of any low end PC on a dial-up internet account. Just remember that the better your initial setup is, the easier you will find it. You will NOT enjoy seeing your internet connection crash just as you try to pull off a perfectly timed exit, so it pays to have alternatives for everything you use in trading.
